Things to Do in the Gore Mountain Region

Gore Mountain is located in the picturesque mountain range of the Adirondacks in New York. There are activities for everyone in the Gore Mountain region and there are things to do year-round. There are historic sites to visit, beautiful scenery, and there are things like white water rafting and downhill skiing for the more adventurous types.

Skiing is one of the things that this area is best known for and there are a number of different ski resorts. The Gore Mountain Ski Resort has 12 different ski lifts and 90 trails. The area gets an average snowfall of over 150 inches per year and they also have snowmaking machines to extend the length of the skiing season which typically lasts from mid-November until the end of April.

There is also the West Mountain Ski Resort which has a number of very good beginner and intermediate slopes. This resort has 21 trails for skiing and snowboarding and this resort also offers things like snow tubing and nighttime skiing. Also in this area are the Hickory Ski Center and the Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort.

During the spring, summer, and fall seasons you can enjoy whitewater rafting on the Hudson and Sacandaga rivers. Rafting through the Hudson River Gorge is a thrilling ride through some of the most beautiful country imaginable. The Hudson River Gorge offers a 17 mile stretch for adventure seekers that don’t mind getting wet.

Mountain biking is another popular pastime in the Gore Mountain region when there is no snow on the ground. When the snow stops falling, some of the ski resorts remain open, allowing mountain bikers to ride the trails. Some of the ski resorts even have their chairlifts operating to take riders up the mountain and let them ride down.

If skiing, white water rafting, and mountain biking are a little too adventurous for you, there are also miles of hiking trails, a number of museums and historical sites, and a world-class golf course. The Cronins Golf Resort offers a great course for people of all skill levels. They have an 18 hole course with a par 70 that offers over 6000 yards of greens from the first tee to the final hole. The first four holes of this course border the Hudson River and the entire course offers incredible views of the Adirondack Mountains.

In an area that has so many things to do, the Gore Mountain region also has plenty of accommodations. You can find everything from rustic cabins to luxury hotels. To get the best price on your accommodations I would recommend doing a little bit of research before your trip and even possibly seeing if you can find a coupon to help you get the best rates.
